Addressing Bias and Enhancing Robustness in AI Systems
In this session, we showcased ongoing research at the Image and Video Computing Laboratory at Boston University, where we demonstrated that many of these issues persisted despite the scaling effects, and new challenges were introduced. We discovered that recent large model training merely shifted the definition of in-domain data rather than making models inherently more generic. Relying on web-scraped datasets also rendered models susceptible to text and logo attacks, highlighting the need for robust mitigation strategies. The session concluded by emphasising how, despite these shortcomings, some of these issues could be alleviated by leveraging knowledge gained from the models themselves.
