About the Masterclass
Robots are poised to aid in addressing many challenges relating to the future of healthcare, such as by supplementing an increasing shortage of care workers and by enabling care recipients to live more independently. While a large body of research has explored how robots can assist individuals with disabilities and age-related challenges, past work focuses primarily on building robotic capabilities for assistance. My research shifts the focus toward considering how to successfully integrate robots into care facilities at an ecological level. In doing so, we ask questions about how robots can be seamlessly integrated into the daily lives of professional caregivers and care recipients. In this talk, I will present the multi-phase design of a robotic system developed in collaboration with a local care facility. My work combines the strengths of using artificial intelligence (AI) systems and empowering end users with technology to build intelligent, interactive systems that can support healthcare needs.
