What makes MSU Broad's
Master's in Finance Different!

Official CFA Program Partner

Broad's M.S. in Finance is an official CFA Institute Program Partner, with curriculum covering more than 70% of the CFA Body of Knowledge. This alignment positions graduates to succeed on CFA exams — the most globally recognized credential in investment management — often completing Level I or II during or immediately after the program, significantly accelerating their credibility in finance careers.

Hands-On Learning with Real Financial Data

The program emphasizes applied, hands-on learning through coursework on real-world financial data analytics, machine learning in finance, financial modeling, and valuation. Students work with Bloomberg terminals, live market data, and industry-standard financial software — building a practical portfolio of deliverables (DCF models, portfolio optimization projects, risk assessments) they can showcase directly to employers during recruiting.

Globally Renowned Finance Faculty

The Broad Department of Finance is internationally recognized for its research productivity in top-tier finance journals. Faculty are active researchers whose work appears in leading publications on corporate finance, asset pricing, behavioral finance, and financial markets — ensuring students learn from thought leaders actively shaping the discipline rather than from practitioners delivering dated curriculum.

Small Cohort with Personalized Faculty Access

The program is intentionally kept small to enable 1:1 interaction with world-class faculty. The Broad Department of Finance is internationally renowned for cutting-edge research, and the intimate cohort structure means students get direct mentorship from expert researchers — a significant advantage over larger MSF programs where faculty access is limited to lecture halls.

Flexible, Quantitatively Rigorous Curriculum

Students can tailor coursework across financial management, financial modeling, investments, financial data analytics, machine learning and AI in finance, wealth management, corporate governance, risk management, and real-world financial data analytics. This flexibility lets students specialize for careers in investment banking, asset management, corporate finance, fintech, or quantitative roles — and the quantitative emphasis prepares graduates for the data-driven, algorithmically-enabled future of finance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get all your questions answered about Master's in Finance by MSU Broad

No. In fact, some of our best students come from backgrounds such as engineering, math, statistics, physics and computer science.
The M.S. in Finance is aimed at accomplished professionals choosing to return to business school at the master’s level, but who wish to follow a more focused program devoted to learning and excelling in finance. While the Broad M.S. program offers a wider spectrum of finance courses in comparison to most other institutions with such programs, Broad’s M.S. in Finance degree is not appropriate for students seeking to gain general management education.
All students admitted to the program have some type of work experience. While the admissions committee places a strong emphasis on admitting students with at least two years of professional work experience following their undergraduate degree, applicants with less work experience and strong academic credentials are also encouraged to apply. High-quality summer internships and part-time work experience might be enough to compensate for less than two years of full-time work experience if other credentials are sufficiently strong.
Tuition for the M.S. in Finance is approximately $45,000 (in-state) and $49,500 (out-of-state and international) for the 30-credit program, billed in three equal installments at the start of each semester. This is one of the lowest costs among top 50 business school MSF programs. Some merit-based scholarships and assistantships may be available — all applicants are considered at admission. International students should also explore private educational loans (Indian students can access HDFC Credila, Avanse, Prodigy Finance, MPOWER) and employer sponsorship.
Graduates move into roles as Financial Analysts, Investment Banking Analysts, Corporate Finance Associates, Risk Managers, Asset Management Associates, and Valuation Analysts at firms like JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Deloitte, Ford, and General Motors. National salary benchmarks Broad cites are $70K–$100K+ for entry-level finance roles, with investment banking analysts earning $100,000–$150,000+ including bonuses. As an official CFA Program Partner, Broad's MSF curriculum covers 70%+ of the CFA Body of Knowledge, positioning graduates to complete CFA Level I or II during or immediately after the program — a significant credentialing advantage in finance recruiting.
