What makes MSU Broad's
Master's in Financial Planning & Wealth Management Different!

Strong Industry Network

Broad students have direct access to the MSU Wealth Management Association (MSUWMA), a registered student organization dedicated to training the next generation of financial advisors. MSUWMA hosts major employers for industry insights, internship opportunities, and full-time job placements — giving MS-FPWM students a structured networking pipeline into top wealth management firms throughout the program.

Hands-On Training with Industry-Leading Software

Students gain practical experience with Bloomberg terminals, MoneyGuidePro, and eMoney — the same tools used by top financial professionals at leading wealth management firms. This software fluency gives graduates an immediate advantage in recruiting and on the job, as they arrive at employers already trained in the platforms used for portfolio management, financial planning, and client reporting.

Open to All Majors — No Finance Background Required

Unlike many specialized finance master's programs, Broad's MS-FPWM welcomes applicants from any undergraduate major — including finance, accounting, marketing, supply chain, communications, advertising, economics, psychology, political science, and other social sciences. This inclusive admissions approach reflects the program's philosophy that financial planning is as much about relationship management and client psychology as it is about technical finance — making it accessible to career-switchers.

Small Cohort with Industry-Experienced Faculty

The program runs on a close-knit, small-cohort model taught by instructors with deep professional experience in financial planning and wealth management — not just academics. Students build strong relationships with faculty, peers, and industry professionals, creating lasting networks that extend into the profession. The collaborative environment fosters peer support, study groups, and long-term friendships — a significant advantage when entering a relationship-driven industry.

Integrated Focus on Client Relationship Management

The program goes beyond technical finance by emphasizing the art of relationship management and understanding individual client differences — skills that distinguish top financial advisors from technical analysts. Coursework integrates behavioral finance, communication, and client psychology alongside technical planning tools, preparing graduates for the relationship-driven reality of modern wealth management practice.
