What makes San Diego - Knauss's
Dual Degree: Masters of Business Analytics - Masters of Finance Different!

Dual STEM-Designated, 36-Month OPT

Both programs carry STEM designation. The MSF/MSBA dual degree from the Knauss School of Business is STEM-designated, qualifying international graduates for up to 36 months of OPT work authorization in the U.S. a major advantage over single-degree paths.

Two Master's in 2 Years (62 Units)

The MSF-MSBA dual degree program allows students to obtain an MSF and MSBA degree in two years by completing specific prescribed courses for a total of 62 units significantly fewer than the ~80+ credits required if pursued separately, with substantial tuition savings.

Built-In CFA Exam Preparation

The curriculum is sequenced to support CFA progression. Students are recommended to focus on MSF coursework in the first year and add MSBA courses in the second year of study in order to have more time to prepare for the CFA exam and pass the first two levels of exam before they graduate from the dual-degree program graduates exit with a master's credential plus CFA Level I & II progress.

Quant Finance + Data Analytics Skill Set

Graduates blend advanced financial concepts with technical analytics fluency covering Python applications for finance, machine learning for business and finance, big data, and decision-driving analytics. This combination is in high demand at fintechs, investment banks, hedge funds, and corporate finance teams that increasingly require quantitative and data-driven decision-making.

No MBA or Work Experience Required

Unlike Knauss's MBA-based dual degrees, this track is open to recent graduates and early-career candidates without the typical MBA work-experience prerequisite. It's an ideal fit for engineering, commerce, economics, and statistics undergraduates looking to specialize early in their careers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get all your questions answered about Dual Degree: Masters of Business Analytics - Masters of Finance by San Diego - Knauss

The MSF-MSBA dual degree program allows students to obtain an MSF and MSBA degree in two years by completing specific prescribed courses for a total of 62 units. Students complete the full curriculum of one program and use shared units to satisfy degree requirements for the second making this significantly more efficient than pursuing each degree separately.
Yes, both programs are STEM-designated. The MSF/MSBA dual degree from the Knauss School of Business is STEM-designated, qualifying international graduates for up to 36 months of OPT work authorization in the U.S. (12-month standard OPT plus the 24-month STEM extension) making this one of the most internationally friendly graduate offerings at Knauss.
Yes. The curriculum is intentionally sequenced to support CFA progression. Students are recommended to focus on MSF coursework in the first year and add MSBA courses in the second year of study in order to have more time to prepare for the CFA exam and pass the first two levels of exam before they graduate from the dual-degree program. Graduates exit with two master's degrees plus CFA Level I & II progress a powerful credential stack.
No. Unlike Knauss's MBA-based dual degrees, this program is open to recent graduates and early-career professionals without the typical 2-year work experience prerequisite of an MBA. Applicants must apply and be admitted to both the MSF and MSBA programs separately. Strong undergraduate quantitative coursework (calculus, statistics) is expected given the technical nature of both curricula.
Graduates qualify for hybrid quant-finance roles that increasingly require both financial expertise and data fluency. Common paths include quantitative analyst, financial data scientist, risk analyst, FP&A analyst, portfolio analyst, and consulting analyst at firms like Deloitte, PwC, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan, Charles Schwab, Visa/Mastercard, and Qualcomm. The dual credential is especially valuable in banking risk modeling, fintech, Big Four advisory, and corporate FP&A functions where finance + analytics is now table stakes.
