What makes SCU Engineering Different!

Healthcare Innovation Program

Integrates engineering, business, and medicine to address healthcare disparities through interdisciplinary projects and entrepreneurial mentorship. Students develop technologies like AI-driven diagnostic tools.

SCU Grand Challenge Scholars Program

The SCU Grand Challenge Scholars Program combines opportunities to engage, understand and help address the grand challenges facing society, while inspiring innovative ideas and designs that will help people around the world achieve a higher standard of living and quality of life. Through completion of the five components of the program, students will have the opportunity to engage in research relating to their selected grand challenge, explore interdisciplinary coursework, gain an international perspective, engage in entrepreneurship, and give back to the community through service learning. SCU Engineering students who complete the program will achieve the distinction of Grand Challenge Scholar, endorsed by both SCU and the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and will be uniquely prepared to collaborate and succeed in a transdisciplinary and global environment.

Top-Ranked Engineering School in Silicon Valley

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, SCU’s School of Engineering is consistently ranked among the top engineering programs in the U.S., offering students unmatched access to the world’s leading tech companies and startups.

Advanced Labs and Interdisciplinary Research

Santa Clara Engineering is home to several state-of-the-art research centers and labs, which allow students β€” even at the undergraduate level β€” to get hands-on experience in emerging technologies. Some notable centers include:

1) The Robotics Systems Lab – focused on intelligent systems, autonomous vehicles, and unmanned aircraft.

2) The Frugal Innovation Hub – promoting low-cost, high-impact tech solutions for global humanitarian challenges.

3) The Latimer Energy Lab – researching sustainable energy technologies.

SCU encourages interdisciplinary research, allowing engineering students to work alongside faculty from business, law, and sciences β€” reflecting how real-world problems are solved.

Personalized Education with Expert Faculty

With a student-to-faculty ratio of just 10:1, students benefit from small class sizes, close mentorship, and tailored academic advising. SCU emphasizes a teaching approach where faculty β€” many of whom have real-world industry experience β€” actively mentor students inside and outside the classroom. This personalized attention not only helps with academic success but also opens doors to faculty-led research, personalized recommendation letters, and better career guidance.
