Frequently Asked Questions

Get all your questions answered about MS Transportation Systems by NYU Tandon

The program is designed to be completed in about 1.5 to 2 years by full-time students. This duration allows students to take a balanced course load while engaging in research projects, internships, or industry collaborations. Part-time study may extend the duration depending on the student’s schedule.
Students must complete a minimum of 30 credits to earn the degree. These credits comprise core courses covering transportation engineering fundamentals, elective courses that allow specialization, and possibly a thesis or capstone project that involves research or applied transportation problem solving.
Applicants are expected to hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, urban planning, computer science, or a related discipline. Strong quantitative skills, especially in statistics, mathematics, and programming, are important. Admissions review includes undergraduate GPA, test scores (GRE optional), letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, and relevant work or research experience.
GRE scores are optional. While submitting a good GRE score may strengthen an application, admissions place a strong focus on academic performance and professional experience relevant to transportation and systems engineering. Some applicants without GRE scores have been admitted based on their strong profiles.
Internships are strongly encouraged but not mandatory. Students benefit from NYU’s strong industry connections and career services that help secure internships with transportation agencies, consulting firms, and tech companies. Internships provide practical experience crucial for career development in transportation systems.
