What makes Berkeley - Haas's
Full-Time MBA Different!

Principles-Driven Collaborative Culture

Haas is famous for its explicitly defined leadership values – “Question the Status Quo,” “Confidence Without Attitude,” “Students Always,” and “Beyond Yourself” – which shape a non-competitive, innovative community. This culture emphasizes humility, empathy and open dialogue. For example, Haas’s inclusive environment encourages students to learn from each other and take intelligent risks together. In contrast to more hierarchical or prestige-focused programs, Haas MBA students highlight that collaboration and shared purpose (not ego) drive the class experience.

Silicon Valley Ecosystem Access

No other top MBA sits so squarely in the global tech/startup hub. Berkeley Haas “joins the unique ecosystem of the Bay Area and Silicon Valley” as an on‐campus “learning lab for innovation”. With 2,000+ tech firms in the region, Haas students have unmatched proximity to entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and tech recruiters. In practice, major firms and recruiters treat Haas as a West Coast tech stop (along with Stanford), a distinction noted even in third‐party comparisons. This location-driven access – to early‐stage startups, corporate innovation labs and VC networks – goes well beyond what East Coast programs can offer in technology exposure.

Entrepreneurship Ecosystem and Track Record

Haas fully leverages the Bay Area by providing a rich infrastructure for entrepreneurs. In 2024 it opened the new Berkeley Haas Entrepreneurship Hub (eHub) – a dedicated on-campus space and accelerator that connects student founders with mentors, courses, competitions and campus-wide resources. Student teams also benefit from seed funds (e.g. the Haas Trione Fund) and a plethora of startup competitions. The results are striking: Haas alumni-founded startups have raised ~$47.5 billion to date and the school is ranked #1 in the U.S. for number of alumni-founded (and women-founded) startups. This level of entrepreneurial support – integrated with the broader Berkeley innovation community – rivals or exceeds that of peer programs (even those at Stanford or MIT).

Hands-On Experiential Learning

Practicum courses and client projects are built into the Haas MBA more intensively than at many peers. Over 50% of Haas electives involve team-based, project work with real organizations. Every student takes at least one “Applied Innovation” course, tackling live challenges from global firms or nonprofits. Flagship programs include Haas@Work (student consulting teams solving strategic problems for companies like Cisco, Disney or Wells Fargo) and global field immersions. Haas also runs the Sustainable Investment Fund – the first student-managed ESG fund at a top business school – where MBA leaders manage a ~$3 M portfolio learning responsible finance. In sum, the Haas curriculum is deliberately practice-oriented, providing more guaranteed real-world engagement than typical case-only programs.

Sustainability & Social Impact Focus

Ethical leadership and climate impact are woven through Haas. In 2024 Haas launched a unique MBA/Master of Climate Solutions concurrent degree (in partnership with the Natural Resources School) to train specialists in sustainability and climate strategy. The core curriculum itself has been revamped to include climate and ESG challenges in every class. Students run impact-focused initiatives (like the Haas Impact Fund venture capital program) and the aforementioned Sustainable Fund. This deep integration of social responsibility – from coursework to co-curricular projects – is more systemic than at most MBA programs. It reflects Haas’s public-university mission and gives graduates tools to drive positive change, a selling point that stands out among even the most socially conscious MBA schools

Our class profile will serve as a good first point of evaluating your qualifications in relation to our current students. The profile includes statistics related to test results, years of work experience, industry interests, etc. Our website outlines the Guidelines and Criteria for applying to the Berkeley Full-time MBA program. This outline will provide explanations of what the Admissions Committee is looking for in each applicant.
While there is no minimum acceptable GMAT or GRE score, see last year's class profile for average test scores. We are especially interested in your performance on the quantitative section as an indication of your mathematics proficiency. Please note that the Analytical Writing component is required for both the GMAT and GRE.
