What makes Pittsburgh - Katz's
Signature MBA Different!

18-Month Format with Summer Internship

The full-time Signature MBA is a traditional program that takes 18 months to complete. It offers a comprehensive understanding of business operations with time for an internship experience. This traditional two-year structure with a summer internship is the gold standard for MBA career switchers — it gives you time to explore new industries, complete a summer internship to test-drive a career pivot, and convert the internship into a full-time offer before graduation. The 18-month length (vs. traditional 24 months) also reduces opportunity cost by 25% compared to most top US MBA programs.

STEM-Designated MBA with Business Analytics Track

Pair your Katz MBA with Business Analytics — this STEM-designated full-time, two-year program is designed to be completed in 21 months with time for a summer internship and an integrated learning capstone experience. This is a major advantage for international students: the STEM-designated MBA with Business Analytics track offers 36 months of OPT (versus 12 months for a traditional non-STEM MBA), giving international graduates three H-1B lottery attempts instead of one. Few US MBAs offer a STEM track directly within the core MBA program.

Experience-Based Learning

The emphasis on experiential learning is what drew me to Katz — whether it's hands-on coding, innovation, communication practice, or real-world consulting, Katz integrates experiential learning throughout its curriculum. The Signature MBA includes Consulting Field Projects where student teams solve real client business problems, case competitions, hackathons, start-up weekends, and management capstone projects. This hands-on approach gives graduates a tangible portfolio of deliverables — not just coursework — to showcase in interviews.

Flexible Concentrations and Dual-Degree Pathways

The Signature MBA offers deep customization through concentrations in finance, strategy, marketing, operations, supply chain, business analytics, accounting, and entrepreneurship. Students can also pursue dual-degree options including MBA/MS-MIS (21 months, U.S. News top-20 ranked), MBA/MS Supply Chain Management, MBA/JD (with Pitt Law), MBA/MHA (Healthcare Administration), MBA/MA International Business, and MBA/MS Industrial Engineering. This dual-degree flexibility is unusually broad for an 18-month program.

Strong Pittsburgh Employer Access and Alumni Network

Pittsburgh has a strong business community and plenty of post-MBA career opportunities, with major companies such as PNC Financial Services Group, UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center), Allegheny Technologies, and Kraft Heinz. Other industries include renewable energy, cybersecurity, biotech, and robotics.Katz's 60+ year MBA history has produced a strong alumni network — notable alumni include former P&G President of Global Business Units Susan Arnold, Texas Instruments CFO Kevin March, and senior executives across Fortune 500 companies. The Pittsburgh MBA market is also less saturated than coastal MBA markets, giving graduates stronger relative positioning with regional employers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get all your questions answered about Signature MBA by Pittsburgh - Katz

The Signature MBA is an 18-month, traditional full-time program geared toward career switchers who want time to explore new industries, complete a summer internship, and convert it into a full-time offer. The Accelerated MBA is a 12-month program geared toward career accelerators who already have a clear path and want to rejoin the workforce quickly without a summer internship. Both programs share the same core curriculum and faculty, and both offer access to concentrations, dual-degree pathways, and the STEM-designated MBA with Business Analytics track. For international students and career switchers, the Signature MBA is typically the better choice because of the internship window. For experienced professionals with defined career trajectories, the Accelerated MBA offers faster ROI and less opportunity cost.
The standalone Signature MBA is not STEM-designated, giving international F-1 graduates only the standard 12-month OPT. However, Katz offers the MBA with Business Analytics track — a STEM-designated variant of the Signature MBA that qualifies international graduates for a 36-month OPT (12 months standard plus a 24-month STEM extension) and three H-1B lottery attempts. For Indian and other international students targeting US placement, the STEM-designated MBA with Business Analytics track is almost always the strategic choice. The curriculum is very similar to the Signature MBA but adds analytics coursework that earns the STEM classification.
Katz is test-optional — GMAT/GRE scores are not required but can strengthen an application. The average admitted Signature MBA student has around 5 years of work experience and an undergraduate GPA of ~3.39, with a 38% acceptance rate. International applicants need English proficiency scores (TOEFL 100+, IELTS 7.0+, or Duolingo 130+ recommended). While there's no strict minimum work experience, applicants with less than 2 years typically fit better in Katz's MS programs (like the MS in Management and Business Analytics), while those with 3–7 years are the sweet spot for the Signature MBA. Applicants with 10+ years of experience are typically directed to the Executive MBA program instead.
The Signature MBA costs approximately $65,820 per year for non-Pennsylvania residents, with PA residents paying a lower rate. Over the 18-month program, total tuition runs approximately $90,000–$100,000, with additional living expenses of around $22,000–$25,000 per year in Pittsburgh (notably lower than coastal MBA cities like Boston, New York, or San Francisco). Katz also offers merit scholarships, graduate assistantships, and fellowships that can meaningfully offset costs. Typical Signature MBA graduates see starting salaries of $95K–$110K base plus $10K–$15K signing bonuses, giving the program a 5–7 year payback period for most career switchers.
The Signature MBA has its primary intake in August (Fall) with graduation in April of the second year (18 months later). Application deadlines follow the Katz MBA cycle: Round 1 – October 15, Round 2 – January 15, Round 3 – April 15 (international deadline), and Round 4 – July 15 (domestic deadline). Indian and international applicants should aim for Round 2 (January 15) to allow enough runway for I-20 processing, US visa slot booking, scholarship consideration, and loan arrangement. Round 3 works but leaves thin margins for visa delays, which have been volatile in India through 2025–2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and interviews are typically conducted within 3–6 weeks of a completed application.
